Derby the dog’s life has transformed with the help of a new set of 3D printed legs that allow him to run like the other pups.
The husky was born with no front paws and small deformed legs, meaning he was unable to do much more than crawl. But everything changed when he was adopted by Sherry Portanova, an employee of 3D Systems, who set to thinking about ways to improve his mobility.
There was a story on Derby from a year ago, when he got his first set of prosthetic legs. At best they were wobbly and didn’t really give him the free flowing motion other dogs have. One of the biggest issues was that Derby had to be made used to the prosthetics being raised off the floor.
Here is the video from a year ago:
Thanks to the latest version of his legs, and I would assume surely not the last. But everything changed when he was adopted by Sherry Portanova, an employee of 3D Systems, who set to thinking about ways to improve his mobility.
Derby’s owner, Sherry Portanova said: ‘It raised him up to his proper height. Now he’s walking in a straight line and he’s sitting like a real dog sits, which he’s never been able to do.’
And now Derby can run for miles. Another win for 3D Printing!!!
